Lauren Williams (she/they) is a Detroit-based designer who works with visual and interactive media to understand, critique, and reimagine the ways social and economic systems distribute and exercise power over Black life and death.
The State of Black Design was a two-hour virtual discussion, hosted by Texas State University's Communication Design program. The session I participated in, "Design as Activism," invited panelists to reflect on the role of design in protest, particularly in response to the 2020 uprisings after George Floyd's murder.
